"Handcrafted" Home Away From Home

Many handhewn cedar beams were used to support the floors and ceilings.
"That Dam Yough House" was originally built in 1915. The house was a small 1,100 square feet, 2 bedroom, plank house. It sits close to what once was the site of The Confluence Carnival. Now, fully renovated by the Virgin family, it boasts 2,200 square feet of living space including 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths! After purchase in 2000, the "Virgin" boys, at "Dad’s" direction, began the dusty demolition job. The home was basically "gutted." Many handhewn cedar beams were used to support the floors and ceilings. Local contractors provided their fine skills to bring the house to its "ready to finish" state.

Dad’s attention to quality, fine detail and ability to maximize the wood’s natural beauty is obvious upon entering the home. The trim work is done with various types of wood, such as wormy chestnut (originally in the home), cedar, hemlock and yellow pine. Other handcrafted items that will amaze and impress you are the 20 foot stone fireplace (w/potbelly stove), the log wall and the bunk beds. By walking room to room you will marvel at Dad’s ideas. The finished product is a testament to his life long motto of "Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing." Book an overnight stay soon. Maybe you will get lucky and hear some "Confluence stories" from Dear Ole Dad.
